Never Again:International Committee

From Never Again

This page is designed to try and move forward on some of the central challenges that face Never Again. I intend to invite contributions from the founder members of Never Again, before opening up the discussion to newer members and using the input to feed into the administrative documents on the wiki. We can also discuss this on November 4. I am trying to provide a framework to make it easy for others to contribute, not steer the outcome at all, so please feel free to comment, make changes or criticisms on the approach at any time ClareWhite 10:44, 26 Oct 2005 (BST)

Introduction

Never Again has become a wonderfully successful, creative global network which the capacity to deliver major projects and events, attract funding and interest. However, there are underlying tensions about its purpose and direction. Until we work through these problems, it is difficult to expand effectively and some members may be left feeling alienated.

'How it should be' - suggestions

  • Do you see any problems in the way that Never Again works now?
  • What do you feel should be the main activities of Never Again?
  • What do you feel should be future activities of Never Again?

How do we build a global network?

Ideas for:

  • Improving communication
  • Governance - how much central control should there be/can there be over what happens in Never Again's name?

Existing structure, constitution and aims

See:

  • Organization and membership as it has been built on the wiki (remember there are many members who have not yet signed up to the wiki)

Aims and Objectives

  • Examine past conflict in order to generate ideas for the prevention of future conflicts.
  • Facilitate connectivity, critical thinking and a creative approach to diversity among global youth.
  • Encourage global youth connectivity, cooperation and action to create projects for peace.
  • Develop Never Again as a global youth network.

Principles

  • Never Again is an entirely inclusive organisation and embraces differences of every kind.
  • Never Again actively seeks to recruit members that are representative of a range of nationalities, backgrounds, religions, ethnicities, sexual orientations and gender.
  • Never Again sees the recognition and acceptance of difference in others to be the mark of our common identity as an organisation; the foundation of our network as well as our methodology.
  • Never Again not only accepts and welcomes difference in others, but also works to utilise this difference through encouraging relationships that allow reciprocal learning.
  • Never Again encourages engagement in civil society at local, national and international levels. All youth, regardless of background, wealth, literacy or access to technology have the right to a voice in the international community.

Priorities

(suggestions)

  • Agree international structure and elect international committee
  • Agree membership structures for individual countries
