If all you want to know is how to edit a specific page, read this quick guide
Introduction
Wiki websites are websites which can be edited by any user of the internet with a simple text language. Wiki is Hawaiian for "quick" and editing is exactly that: quick and simple.
The exciting thing about wikis is that they can be used by large groups of people to collaborate on freely available projects and this has been used to great effect by Wikipedia, whose software we have used for this website.
Wikis can be used for massive projects or, if you only have a minute, for chipping in quickly to a project. You can create links to pages that don't exist yet and fill in the details later, or someone else can help out.
How do I...
...edit a page?
To edit a Never Again page, click on the "Edit this page" (or just "edit") link at one of its edges. This will bring you to a page with a text box containing the wikitext: the editable source code from which the server produces the webpage.
If you are not satisfied you can make more changes and preview the page as many times as necessary.
Then write a short edit summary in the small text field below the edit-box and when finished press "Save".
...leave a message for someone?
Each user page, once created, has a navigation bar to everyone else's user page. Go to their page, press the + button and write your message. Next time they visit, a message will notify them that you called!
...join Never Again?
At the moment, Never Again is an informal network, although there are Groups in some areas of the African Great Lakes, the USA, UK and Canada that you can join.
Internationally, the best way to get involved is to sign up to the wiki and then start getting involved in our online projects listed in the Special:Community Portal
...sign my username?
The easiest way is to use four tildes - ~~~~) - which will display your signature and the time you made your post. If you don't have tildes use this format to create the link [[User:yourusername|yourusername]]. If you don't have the right symbols to sign your name, or you forget, it is possible to see who posted from the page history.
...format text?
For the following text formatting section, please feel free to experiment however you feel like at the Sandbox.
A good way to see how something is done is to edit he page you like, copy the source and then adapt it.
Formatting is done with the following simple signs around the text:
Bold
'''Bold''' (three apostrophes, not a quote mark)
Italics
''Italics'' (two apostrophes)
- Bullet point: (star)
- Indent text: Colon(s) at beginning of line
- New page section: two equals
- New subsection: three equals
Link to an external site: (URL, space, link text), eg [http://www.neveragaininternational.org Our homepage] displays as Our homepage
Link to an internal page: eg [[Sandbox]] or use the straight slash to divide a page from the link text for an already existing page.
- Line space: two line spaces
To check your formatting, press preview before you save. if you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask for help!
...start a new page
The quickest way - and the best if you're brainstorming - is simply to put square brackets round some words while you edit. When you save the page, these words will turn into a red link to another page which you can then edit. You can also use this box:
...explain what I've done
Put a note in the 'Summary' box when you edit. People can see on Special:Recent changes and in the page history what you've done and your reasons
...add photos to the front page
to nominate a photo for the front page, please simply send a link to it to Clare or Nick and we'll get it us asap. It needs to be a photo that one of 'us' has taken and you may also want to cc in members that you know are in the photo in case they want to raise an objection. On the front page, people are pretty unidentifiable as there are no captions but it's still good practice.
...add photos to other pages
Cut and paste the template below to add a photo to the right of the page as shown here. Replacing your own links to the photo first, then to the photo's full page and change the caption if you want:

http://static.flickr.com/100/284667840_da82b3f9a9_m.jpg
[http://www.flickr.com/photos/62643968@N00/ Photo: Mireille Saurette: click to see more]

Note: You should be more careful about asking members' permission if they want to appear in a captioned photo as some would prefer not to.
